Segmentation
Create data-driven or manual segments in Waymore to target campaigns and automate messaging.
Segments are named groups of contacts who share characteristics or behaviors. Use them as recipient lists, campaign triggers, or filters whenever you need a specific subset of your Waymore workspace.
Membership updates automatically when contacts meet or stop meeting your conditions.
You add or remove contacts explicitly — useful when you need direct control.
Example: inactive users
A segment like Users with no page views in the last 30 days includes contacts who joined at least 30 days ago but have not logged in recently. Use it as a campaign trigger to re-engage visitors.
Choosing segment type
Waymore works best when integrated with your product — user attributes and events drive automated messaging. Data-driven segments are recommended for most use cases.
Choose manual segments when you need fixed lists, one-off uploads, or when data integration is not available.
Creating a segment
- Open Segments in the Waymore console.
- Click Create Segment.
- Enter a name and description that explains who belongs in the segment.
Good descriptions use your team's terminology so segments are easy to find and reuse.
Managing segments
- Find — search or filter the Segments page by name or description
- View details — see criteria, current membership, and membership over time
- Export — download segment members as CSV
- Archive — retain history or temporarily disable a segment (segments in active use cannot be archived)
Automated segmentation
For rule-based segments with AND/OR logic, JSON attributes, and message-based conditions, see Automated Segmentation.
Troubleshooting
Common issues:
- Segment conditions reference attributes your integration does not send
- Updated conditions do not re-trigger campaigns — verify campaign triggers and segment refresh timing
- Deleted segments still show stale members — allow time for workspace sync
- Special characters (
*,|,+) in values — escape regex characters with\when needed - Manual segment adds fail when the contact does not exist in the workspace
